Are there any political issues, such as abortion or capital punishment, that are so fundamental to your core values that you could not respect and/or trust someone who held a contrary view?

No, because I myself have been on both sides of most issues at various times in my life.  As new ideas become part of my figuring my positions change.  My main hardcore belief is default freedom.  People can do as they want provided they do not cause a clear harm to others.  Laws that go beyond this are  superfluous and may rightly be ignored.  The state is over stretching its bounds when it reaches in to control the lives of people in areas where harm is not being caused to others.  A person can take whatever actions they like which may harm themselves so long as they harm no others.  Making other people nervous watching is not causing them harm.  They can choose not to watch or simply choose not to be nervous while doing it..

This is probably the only image from this set that I'll post right now. I'm not 100% thrilled with the rest, I was having major equipment issues at the time, so you may see one or two of the salvageable shots resurface later in the year as part of my 365. In the meantime, though, this is it.

Bleep bloop.

I'm having loads of fun with a heart rate monitor...

In the past, every time I have a chance to play with a heart rate monitor, like the few times I've been hospitalized, I like to see what I can do with various thoughts and mental states. (On more than one occasion causing the nurses to run in and see why it was so erratic.. heh.)

Well, now I have pledged to lose 50 pounds for http://feedingamerica.org/ (they donate 1 pound of food to my local food bank for every 1 pound of weight that I lose) and I have my very own little heart rate monitor/watch to play with. Heh.

So, just for fun.. The following things were done while remaining as still as possible:

Resting heart rate at the start
: 83 bpm

Thinking about sex
: 107 bpm.

Imagining something extremely stressful/trying to induce panic
: 113 bpm

Visualizing I am running away from something horrible
: 118 bpm

Masturbating to orgasm
: 142 bpm (though it actually stopped beeping around 120-something because I'd hit my target heart rate for exercising at that point.) I remained as still as I possibly could during this to try to keep any actual physical exertion out of it. Haha..

What else should I try? :D

I don't know if I'll be posting these individually over here yet. I'm still trying to decide if/how I want to post them separately to flickr and DA.

 David Lee Roth released Skyscraper.

I don't know if this was a great album. It may be, I never owned it.  I did love Eat 'Em And Smile though, but it wasn't released on January 1st.

Whew.....

Fastest way to turn an angry customer into a happy one? Talk about how amazing their choice of pet is, or how adorable their kids sound.

Surprisingly, they prefer it if you talk about their pets than their kids, but kids will do in a pinch.

Whatever kind of pet you have is my absolute favorite pet ever and I'll have plenty of stories about that breed to fill our time so you can't fit in any bitching.

People who don't have kids or pets, or I can't hear them in the background, are much harder.. but I can usually find SOMETHING they love to gush over...

**And that concludes the posting of this set. In the future, I'm going to mass post a set all at once to the blog at lexmachinaphoto.com and then to the flickr account.

If I can figure out how to cross post to here from the blog we'll do that, if not, I'll post here with one or two images from each set and a link to the blog and/or flickr.

**This was one of my personal favorites. There's something authentic feeling about this shot. The composition, blurry foot, something. I tried to give it a finish that would feel old timey, but not be an exact replica of antique images. I think I might like it better with an off centered, possibly medium format proportioned crop and a bit more yellow.

I love you Erica, and I want to spend my life with you.

In front of God, our families, and our friends, I offer to be your husband, and ask you to be my wife.

To love and to cherish, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to be with you as long as we both shall live.

I never though marriage could be this great. There are WAY less drawbacks than I had imagined. Even better, there are more benefits than I ever expected.

I love Erica Olsen.

Thank you, Reader. If you're reading this it's likely because we know each other. Thank you for helping me become the person I am.

Workout woes

  • Dec. 27th, 2009 at 9:48 PM
The thing about the exercises I don't like to do is that it is hard to get started.  Once I start with that first set I don't have any trouble getting up for the rest of the sets.  Then I feel really good the next day and want to work those same muscles again.  I don't do it because rest is an important part of the process.  This leads to a difficulty getting started again.

I don't have any trouble getting going on the exercises I love to do.  The problem with those is that I keep doing more until my arms, shoulders, or whatever just won't.

I also am having some problems with my knees, specifically my petellar tendons.  They don't hurt, but I am limited in what I can do if I want to be able to work back from this and avoid long term painful rehab of those tendons.  I really wish I could do my squats and lunges, they make my muscles feel so good.

So most of my leg work is the very short movement of things like dead lifts and dumbbell cleans combined with a little stretching and the occasional shallow squat.  Since I spend most of my time in the basement risking a more serious knee problem is not something I want to do.  I'm just glad that I know what the tearing in the petellar tendon feels like so I cut back before it got worse.  I wish it would heal faster, but I'm doing this on my own since I would have to pay for professional help.
